Dyce Juniors were formed as a result of an amalgamation of one of the oldest Junior clubs Mugiemoss and a comparatively new club Rosslyn Sports (Formerly Rosemount). The reason given to Mugiemoss was that Rosslyn Sports were having difficulties in maintaining the ground at Dyce and the Moss were looking to get out of Linksfield as they knew the second pitch at Linksfield was going to be given over to an all weather pitch and as there were three teams at Linksfield - Lewis United, Parkvale and Mugiemoss vying for one pitch there would be problems in the future. We at Mugiemoss wanted to retain our name as did Rosslyn Sports. With no agreement a compromise was to name the club Dyce Juniors. Six months into the first season after a disagreement all of the Rosslyn Sports committee resigned. In essence we could have retained the Mugiemoss name if it had happened earlier. The Dyce club colours are blue & white hoops, but we retained the Mugiemoss tradition by using their black & white stripes for our change kit.
In the first few years the committee realized how big a job it was to maintain the ground and if it had not been down to the amazing amount of time given to the club by the committee and especially Ian Mair we would not be in the position we are in today. The dressing rooms consisted of two Portacabins joined together with a flat roof. After some years the roof was leaking more water than our defence was leaking goals and finally we decided to build new dressing rooms, bearing in mind when the River Don flooded we would ensure that the building was above the high water mark. Ian Mair was delighted as was everybody connected with the club. Ian unfortunately passed away in December 2000 and it was unanimously agreed to rename the park in his memory. Over the years we have made various improvements including installing floodlights for our training area, constructing new dugouts and building a new sponsors lounge. In September 2006 we built a roof to provide a covered area for spectators in front of the changing room building.
After several seasons in the First Division we gained promotion to the Super League by lifting the First Division title in 2005/06. Our first season in the top flight saw us perform well and finish in 6th place. The following year saw us again finish 6th (one point better off than the previous season), and we got our hands on some silverware lifting the Regional Cup with a 2-0 final win over Turriff Utd. Last season saw further improvement with a 4th place finish in the league (only missing 3rd on goal difference). We retained the Regional Cup by defeating Formartine Utd 4-1 in the final, and also added the Grill League Cup with a penalty shoot out final win over East End. 2009/10 saw another 4th place finish, again missing out on 3rd on goal difference. No cups this time unfortunately, something we will hopefully rectify soon! |
