Sportman's Dinners

2011

Saturday the 14th May was the date for the 2011 dinner, and once again more than 200 were in attendance at the Menzies. Overall it was a fantastic evening, with the exception of a very small minority who evidently couldn't handle the amount of booze they must have consumed and therefore left the building. Thainer was tasked with running the evening and as ever did a top rate job, as did the hotel staff with the meal. Our two speakers were both making their first appearance at a Dyce dinner and both Sandy Strang and Joe Camay were superb. We had some tremendous auction items and  a big thank you goes out to all who put in such generous bids to make the night such a success. In addition, we would also like to thank all the sponsors, companies, clubs and individuals for supporting us by attending the dinner again. We look forward to seeing you all in 2012!

2010

Friday the 14th May saw us hold our 4th Sportsman's dinner, the third in a row at the Menzies Hotel. Once again Vicky and her staff kept the food and drink side of things running smoothly, and again Thainer was superb as our MC. Our first guest speaker was former grade 1 ref John Rowbotham and his intro of impersonating Pierluigi Collina was tremendous and set the tone for the remainder of his time at the mike. He was followed by former Highland League correspondent Bill McAllister who was equally as entertaining. Big thanks to all who attended including main sponsors Nor-Dan, all our other sponsors, donator principal Phil McKenzie, the other clubs who joined us (Culter, Maud, Stonehaven and the 'out of contracts' Messrs Keith, Ronald, Stephen and friends) and to all the other companies and individuals who supported the night. There were over 200 in attendance and hopefully everyone enjoyed the night.

2009

Saturday the 28th February saw us hold our third fundraising dinner. For the second year running it was held at the Menzies Hotel in Dyce, with approx 200 in attendance. The first guest speaker was former grade 1 referee Brian McGinlay, who had many a story to tell from his refereeing days. Next up was Les Peters, who was returning after his debut with us last year. Once again he was in good form and kept everyone well entertained. We would like to thank both speakers for joining us and hope they enjoyed the night with us. Also to be thanked are all the guests- the various sponsors, companies, individuals and fellow junior teams. Officially 4 tables were taken by our competitors- Stonehaven and Glentanar joining us for the first time along with regulars Culter and Hillhead. Next to the Glens table was Rollstud, which was a who's who of Formartine Utd effectively meaning a 5th team. All the auction items went well and overall we managed to boost the coffers to make the night worthwhile. Once more the whole thing was expertly hosted by the man who certainly puts the master into master of ceremonies- Ian Thain. Thanks to Ian and also Vicki & her staff at the hotel for ensuring everything went without a hitch. Hopefully see you all next time!
